What Does Our Worship Service Look Like?
What Does Sunday Morning at The Rock House Church Look Like?

The house church, by its very nature, looks a bit different than a traditional church.  We begin our worship by gathering around the breakfast table at 10 am for “cake and coffee” (cake meaning any number of Ruthie’s home-baked treats or fresh donuts, fruit or pastries which Diane faithfully comes in early to set up with coffee and tea). We welcome any visitors, catch up with each other’s busy week and simply enjoy each other’s company. Sometimes Pastor Vic has a short devotional or a clever challenge with a spiritual message before we move into the living room for our service.

Vic and Ruthie’s home has a pleasant, soothing atmosphere.  We sit
around the living room and have announcements and share instances of
God’s goodness to us over the past week. We pray for each other and for
any requests that are shared. And then we let Holy Spirit lead us through
Pastor Vic, who may begin his message (because he just can’t hold it in
any longer) or we worship in music first. In either order, we honor God with
our hearts in song and in the message.

Our “music ministry” is also a bit different.  We do not have a so-called
“worship leader” so we sing together with a prepared music video prayerfully
designed to lead us into heart-felt worship, thanksgiving and praise to our
Heavenly Father.  We focus on His glory, His goodness and His infinite love for us.  Scripture says He inhabits the praises of His people, so not only do we bless Him with our praise, we also open our hearts to receive His love and enjoy His presence together as His people.

Pastor Vic’s messages are fresh each week with whatever Word the Lord has given him during his study and meditation.  And unlike the traditional church service, our messages are “interactive” in the sense that Vic asks for a lot of input from us as he presents the Word and we discuss how it applies to our lives (or maybe he’s checking to see if we’re paying attention). He asks questions that help us tune in to what Holy Spirit wants to teach us at this moment, not yesterday’s revelation. We are blessed with a faithful leader who hears from God and delivers to us what he hears.

Does The Rock Offer Childcare or Youth Programs?

The Rock is a small group of believers whose children are all grown and thus are no longer in need of childcare or age-based programs. However, we are strong supporters of the family unit and believe that the most healthy learning takes place in a family environment.  So when visitors arrive with children we love to have the entire family present to enjoy the service together.

What Denomination Does The Rock Identify With?

The Rock does not “identify” with a denominational label (denominations tend to make separations in the one true church).  We are sons and daughters of God because we believe in the precious sacrifice of Jesus our Lord. He gave His life to purify us from sin and reconcile us to our Father.  He now sits at the right hand of God and has given His Holy Spirit to live in us, enabling us to live lives pleasing to God, and to live through us, empowering us to show the world the immense, unfailing love of the Father.

We are, however, intimately associated with Covenant Life Fellowship, Ontario, NY and are an extension of their ministries, sharing life together with them in spiritual, pastoral, and practical fellowship.
